Congrats! I've always had a soft spot for Porsche 928's. Back in 1986 my older sister called me, excited as hell, and she said "you can't believe it, guess what we just bought?" It was a Guards Red, left over (still new but unsold) 1985 Porsche 928 S w/5.0 L but unfortunately automatic transmission w/black leather interior. It was absolutely stunning. She gave my Mom a ride first, then my Dad, then me but I rode in the back seat for the first two rides.

I'll never forget the sound of that car and I can still picture the interior of it and for the life of me I don't know why I remember this but I remember that the antenna was embedded into the windshield for some reason. What's amazing to me, is that even though the design was 7 or 8 years old at the time, it was so far ahead of its time, it still looked fresh and exotic back then. I can't imagine a 7-8 year old car still being exciting to a fickle teenager these days let alone anyone else.

Those cars had and still have so much charisma about them. Great find, great buy, have fun!

"Test Drive" - fake or real, it's still pretty funny.

What year headunit did you use? I'm looking into options for my 05 WRX.

I used a 2008 or 2009 Legacy GT HEU on mine but, if you notice, I didn't have a choice because Subaru combined the HVAC and HEU into one big POS unit unfortunately. They do have an available separate HVAC unit you can buy from Japan directly that I looked into but it just seems like too much work to me.

I talked my brother into buying a brand new Subaru WRX back in 2005. He's hooked, I think he's a Subaru guy for life now too as he has over 200k miles on his so far and he still loves it. The seats still look like new, he has the original engine, turbo, clutch, transmission, etc.

Anyway, he replaced his HEU with an aftermarket one a few years ago, it's really simple. He loves his b/c it has a built in aux port, usb port, HD radio, has bluetooth, etc. He felt NAV was a waste, I have oem NAV in my wife's '08 Accord and I agree, it's a waste.

Anyway, he bought his a few years ago, it was more back then but now it's pretty cheap - $159 from Crutchfield - you may find it cheaper if you shop it around. Probably sounds dorky but one of things he liked about this was that you can change the text color to display the oem green like the rest of the interior. Plus, his thing is, if it gets ripped off, he's only out a couple hundred bucks. No sense putting something uber-expensive in when it can easily get stolen.

It's a JVC KW-HDR720.

Congrats!

I'm kind of a Subie fan too. I bought mine, brand new, about 7 years ago. It's a 2005 Outback XT LTD w/Manual. It's been a pretty good car (knock on wood), so far I've got 90k miles on it.

I replaced the HEU (Head End Unit) with one from a newer Subie a couple of years ago and added in a factory aux port.

I cannot embed it because it's not a youtube video. He seems like a pretty interesting cat. Either way, it's a gorgeous video and I respect the man's work even though I'm sure it's not for everyone, that's okay, we don't all have to be alike. Anyway, I thought it might bring some enjoyment. Cheers!
