not quite yet. But I'm taking a look at a few on Craigslist. I really want one of the two Camaros, I'm going to call them tomorrow and hope they haven't been sold yet. Wish me luck! Here's all the cars I'm looking at, if anybody has advice on what to stay away from... they all claim to be running. Either way Bill I think you're going to have to help me to keep it that way

1985 Camaro, $750

1987 Cadillac, $600
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1416428895.html
1997 Dodge Stratus, $600
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1409967175.html
1992 Camaro, $500
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1400210992.html
1993 Bonneville, $500
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1395620471.html

The Cadillac's my 2nd choice and will leave me $150 for some nice 25" chrome rims

If you get the Caddy you'll be expected to bring the girls, and with all the room Dan will expect a selection from which to choose - but don't limit him to just one!!!

I cannot stress to you enough to stay away from the Stratus/Cirrus/Breeze.

Entry cost may only be $600 but you'll be well past that every year to keep the electrical system and transmission worthwhile.

Just terrible cars.

Other than that, old Camaros can be fun.

87 Caddy will have too many electronic goodies, like heater controls, to be reliable.
It's about the right age to start having wiring failures.

A FREAKIN CAMARO!!!!
if you buy that you are NOT allowed in my neighborhood.....seriously
its like a rule in Fishers or something

you deffently need to pimp the Caddy!!!

as far as problems I have no clue, but for 600ish I say drive it till it breaks then throw it away and buy another, dont bother putting money into them. Unless it has sentimental value like say a Buick would
I miss that car so much

While everyone seems to bad mouth these cars, I've had very good luck with the 1st generation Dodge Stratus/Chrysler Cirrus. My older son drove a '95 Cirrus for over 100K miles with very few issues. My younger son drove a '98 Stratus for 120K, then wrecked it. Absolutely no electrical or drive train issues - no leaks, no drips. We replaced it last year with another '98 with 70K miles and so far so good.

What exactly do you have to do when buying a used car?
How do I transfer the title officially?
When do I have to pay the tax for it?
How long do I have before I have to get insurance?
Do I keep the license plate the previous owner had? When do I get a new one?
Is there anything else I have to do with the seller or at the DMV?

Absolutely nothing useful on Google

I may be buying a car from Michigan
Thanks!

A bit of advice. I wouldn't buy a car from anyone unless they meet me at the county title dept. and sign the title over personally. If they just sign it and mail it to you or provide it with the car it doesn't mean they own the car! You pay tax on the purchase when you put the title in your own name which you have to do to get plates. Get insurance as soon as the title is in your name.Go back and read the first sentence again! My 2 cents.Aric

So title, tax, and license plates all at the same time, at the DMV? Can I get Indy plates in Michigan?

No, you can only get Indy plates in Indy. You will have to visit your local BMV in South Bend and pay the sales tax, apply for title transfer, and get your new plate. In Indiana they will not let you do the above steps without proof of vehicle insurance so I suggest you start looking for that first. I went to the BMV on Tuesday for plates for the wifes new ride and it wasn't bad at all.... In and out in 10 minutes!

All I told you is for Ohio. Also, before you can get the title transfered you have to take the car ( out of state purchase) to a dealer for a VIN inspection, they have a form to fill out to verify the vin on the car matches the title you were given.
