I'm dealing with rust issues on my 04 ram with only 43k miles....a lot underneath. I blame shitty american build...aswell as me never going through a car wash
Anywho, I've been looking into sanding it off and repainting/resurficing a lot under neath so the truck will last 20 more year.
I have little idea of the correct process. Once I get it off I'm sure I would need to paint it, or coat it in that stuff that turns rust back into metal etc. Same for the plow, but I fear grinding down areas that are welded or weaking other areas.
I've already had problem in the recent past with say my aliluminum wheels fusing to the steal hubs, or needs a tourch to get my wheel bearing out etc. I neglected it a lot underneath but want to make it right again.
I finally started spraing th shit out of it underneath when I finish plowing and plan to make trips to the carwash and getting the underbody spray about twice a month durng winter. After its al taken care of I plan to take it someplace that can rustproof it underneath and get th yearly refresh, or atleast protect what's left as best they can. But again I would need some guidence on even where to go for that.
Hell if the rust removal is too big for me ild even be open to paying some place if anyone has any recomendations or even a general area to start.

I even plan to start waxing it too!!! Gotta make these things last

Well I plan to keep it 20 more years, so if I can't kill it I need to slow it down or mend it. Idealy if I knew better I woulnt hav the under body sprayed and reguarly wash it. My dad didn't believe in such things. His car is oler than me and stil kinda going, my ram 1500 is relatively fine. 43k miles and rust, damn 'merican shit

Locktite Extend. Brush the loose rust off (do not go to clean steel) and spray it on with one of those pump-up sprayers. Buy one, there is no cleaning it afterwards. Do not get the shit on you, it has to wear off your skin. Paint afterwards.

Do they actually deal with the rust? I thought they were just rust proofing? Obviously rust proofing will be needed after the rust issue is addressed

What's the reason not to go down to clean steal? Does it bond better that way?

And I was told that brushing it on works best and to spray the areas a brush can't get to, your thoughts?
Personally ild rather just spray it all as it would be easier. Then paint, then rust proof

It actually bonds to rust, if the metal is clean, they tell you to make it rusty. Brush what you can Dan but there really isn't a lot of places underneath a vehicle that are easy to brush. That's why i said spray.
