Rick doesn't park his Gallardo. He checks it in.

I ended deciding on building my own Almost free workbench.

I just went to peas warehouse here in town and picked up a 80" long 2ft wide Solid exterior wood door.

$15

Im going to use that for a top and i have extra 2x4's left over the basement im going to use for the legs. Not going with shelves. Underneath the bench will be a perfect place for my spare tires. 8)

The project begins.

15 bucks for a work bench? I'd make one for myself. Any tips in building one?

Well...you need:
1) Table Top
2) Table Legs & Support Bracing made of 2x4's
3) Screws and/or Bolts to hold it all together
4) Wrench to tighten screws and/or bolts
5) Drill to drill holes for screws and/or bolts
6) Tape measurer to measure boards to CORRECT lengths
7) Saw to cut boards to CORRECT lengths
8) Vision to be able to put it all together so it actually looks and works like a table

Once you have all the parts and tools, should take you about 30 minutes.

If at anytime you find yourself saying, "I cut the board three times and its still too short.", you need to give up and hire a professional.

I'll work on that for you. I will that its own thread.

As of now. Im pondering buying the Griots garage floor paint. Total cost of the paint will be $300.

White paint.

Then buying Tan and Black metallic flakes to throw around.

How do you guys think that will look?

If you are going cheap, try the rustoleum coating. It has flakes with it and if you prep right and lay it on thick it will look good.

Well griots always have excellent products.

But as for the other retailers. I just cant justify spending up to $3000 for a bucket of paint.

I think $400 is bad enough.

Don't know how big your garage is but Rustoleum is about $ 200.00 for a two car garage.

Just like any other painting project, the trick to making this work is the surface prep. If you don't do it right, the paint peels off after a year or two (or a hot tire or two).

What Rick said ^^...do some research on the different options.

I was checking into the do-it-yourself kits and was warned about differences that can lead to concrete breakdown or finish being pealed off due to hot tires. Looks like all options are not created equal. Also prep seems to be the KEY to any chance of success. Sounds like the group thta did Rick's were worth their weight in getting it done correctly.

i agree.

But for that much money it better be.

I know of the all the stories. My mechanic did his home garage with the DIY kit from Lowes. Even came with a 1 yr warranty. It peeled after a few months from a hot tire. He eventually got his warranty but they made him jump through hoops to do so.

Im slightly confident in griots products. I was going to giev them a call and see what they say about adding flakes to their product.

Well i tackled my work bench last night and knocked it out pretty fast. Im actually surprised in my own abilities.

I took a couple pics but forgot my camera at home. So i will upload them when i upload the pics i take from the MWSCC Birthday bash.

The funny thing is i made my workbench 40" tall. And i think its actually taller then my Lotus.

It makes it look like giants work in the garage.

That's because you're a giant.
