When another batch of spy photos of the upcoming Subaru Exiga surfaced yesterday, we didn't give it much thought. We pretty much know the styling direction and dimensions of Subaru's new people mover, but one portion of AutoExpress' article caught our attention. In addition to the Exiga joining a new Legacy sedan and Outback wagon in 2009, Subaru's future drivetrain plans include dropping the 3.0-liter boxer and reworking the 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines to increase efficiency and power. The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter will supposedly produce 200 hp, while the current turbocharged 2.5-liter will exceed 300 hp. While neither of which is huge news, AE also mentions that a Legacy STI is on the way with a turbo'd 3.7-liter producing close to 450 hp. Whether or not such a beast will actually come about is open to debate, but when it does, we hope that Subaru has the foresight to make it available in the U.S.

Japanese giant Subaru is about to get a whole lot more pulling power! This is the company’s new Exiga MPV, caught undergoing testing in California ahead of its unveiling in June. And Auto Express can exclusively reveal that it could land in showrooms in the UK as early as 2009.

The barely disguised right-hand- drive model has a distinctive sleek profile, with bosses hoping it will appeal to buyers keen to blend sporty looks with people carrier space. Trading on its rallying heritage, Subaru has also given the Exiga a large bonnet scoop – lifted straight from the Impreza STi – plus a rear spoiler and split twin tailpipes.

Inside, the newcomer is all about space, boasting enough room for seven adults. If the production Exiga stays faithful to the concept, unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, it will also sport a panoramic glass roof, flat-panel TV monitors and fold-out tables. And we can confirm that the car will form part of a model line-up for 2009 which includes a new Legacy saloon and Outback estate.

The trio will be powered by newly developed 2.0 and 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, although the 3.0-litre unit in the current Subaru stable will be dropped.

The recently launched boxer diesel will be used as a blueprint for maxi*mising the performance and efficiency of the petrol units. The result will be an output of 200bhp from the naturally aspirated 2.0 engine and more than 300bhp from the turbo 2.5-litre.

Subaru is also planning a turbocharged 3.7-litre petrol engine, with close to 450bhp for a Legacy STi.[

the only cars that do look ok w/ vertical doors are FD RX7s b/c the way the doors are cut on the bottom and Subaru SVX b/c its funky enough as is.

but i still wouldn't do it due to the sheer mass and weight...not to mention it's pointless.

still cool

a FULL LCD display? I've never seen one on a passenger car. I remember seeing something like that on a Unimog or some sort of tractor but it was like the Enzo where it still wasnt a full display.

Not to be a dick guys, but I'm fucking broke. I have no choice but to do this on my own.

I have found people to give me help, but none that have knowledge or tools.

Dan, you can't just take a half disassembled car to the dealer and have them do it. Also, I didn't buy a "OEM" clutch, I bought a stock replacement; because they didn't order it, they can't put it on.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place right now, and I'm sick of driving the 8mpg truck. I'm |-| that close to walking to work and saying fuck it.

A change of luck would be super nice right about now. I am absolutely tired of transmission problems.

I'm sure you have a few DIYs but just in case...found a few JDM ones w/ pics (for a GC though).

Casey,

How did it go? Did you find anyone that can help you?

I had a bit of a temper tantrum online earlier that nobody would help you. But Mark says this isn't necessarily an easy fix so I deleted my post. He thinks you might need to take it to a garage.

there are people out there trying to help....but it's a clutch job. Like you and Mark said, not something you can just go about and start fixing it like a headlight or something. Air tools are probably preferred, and probably need a lift of some sort to drop the transmission. ...which I think Casey has neither.

Toyota Motor Corp's "Crown Hybrid" released in May 2008 is equipped with the "Night View" system that displays the view of the road ahead at night.

In the previous model, the view of the road ahead is displayed on the windshield, and it is overlapped with the view right in front of the car. But the latest model ensures a clear view in front of the car by displaying the view of the road ahead on the LCD meters, even though the driver has to look back and forth between the front view and the meters.

The newest Crown Hybrid employs pattern recognition to recognize pedestrians. Multiple sets of image data on the shapes of pedestrians have been prepared and, the shape of the image shot by the system is compared with the data. When the system determines that a pedestrian is present, yellow frames are displayed around the pedestrian as well as the entire image on the screen.

The yellow frame surrounding the entire image helps driver to recognize pedestrians without moving the sight to the LCD meter.

The LCD meter has a resolution of 1280 x 480 dots. The size of the image indicated by the Night View system is 614 x 346 dots. Vehicle speed, brightness and weather are the conditions that affect the activation of the pedestrian detection function of the Night View system.

According to Toyota, the requisite vehicle speed is 15-60km/h, because it is difficult to recognize pedestrians with the current processing circuit at speeds exceeding 60km/h. The pedestrian detection function will not be activated either, when it is too dark to turn on the low-beam light. Furthermore, the wipers operated in rain will lower the recognition accuracy, thus also preventing the function from being activated.

Toyota plans to consider incorporating a function to recognize bicycles and animals, in addition to pedestrians, because the company has received a number of requests for such a feature from users.

Meanwhile, LCD meters increase the cost, although they have matured technically. According to a demonstrator from Toyota, it is "several times more expensive than the existing meters." The company aims to reduce the cost by increasing the number of models equipped with an LCD meter and by providing greater variation in sizes.
