No, not that!

I bought an A code 1966 Mustang this past weekend. I haven't picked it up yet. I'm looking to go grab it Friday. Then I'll have my own pics.

I suppose now I might need to sell a "fun car"......can drive 4 of them with any consistency! If there is one thing I've learned from Dan is that you can sell your NSX, buy a Diablo and a CGT and still wish you had the NSX back. So, selling the NSX is out of the question. Maybe I'll sell the Porsche in the near future. I think the Mrs. is going to drive the Corvette as a fun car.....and who wouldn't want to drive that long-nosed car.....especially with a 4 speed (and after I warm up that engine this winter). I'm going to drive the Mustang from April-Nov each year as a daily (park the Flex) and that leaves the NSX as a weekend cruiser. That should work....the Porsche, while fun to drive (especially in the uncommon 5-speed configuration), just wouldn't see enough action, so maybe it should be enjoyed by someone else!

Those little Mustangs are neat cars, used to work on a bunch of them as some of my friends were into them big. Stick or auto backing up that 289?

Unfortunately it has a C4 transmission. That can be rectified, but since I'm using it as my DD for the nice months and it is (supposedly) all original I might just leave it. My wife is going to drive that '80 Corvette around as her "Summer Car"...so it is a good thing it is a 4-spd, she likes her "fun cars" to have 3 pedals! Dan and I were just talking about that yesterday.

I'll only keep the Vette for a year or two! However, up until I bought that car a month ago I got razzed a lot about owning a shop....that cut it's teeth on Corvettes....that specializing in Corvettes and other classics......that has Corvette in it's name......and I didn't own a Corvette, and I drove a Ford on top of that! LOL The guys in the shop are already giving me crap about buying the Mustang as a daily driver! Well, I do have a couple of die hard Ford guys out there!

Well, the only logical solution is to buy a Lambo then

Well, owning a Classics shop...I'd have to get a classic.....or at least a "modern classic"...maybe something like this??

1989 Countach

Also, I deemed the Mustang worthy and finalized everything today and brought it back to the shop. Unfortunately, it is a factory GT car and not a "showroom GT" (GT options installed at the dealer). Why "unfortunately" you ask? Well, if it were a Showroom GT, then I would have welded in subframe connectors, changed the carb, intake manifold, cam and heads to pump out more horsepower from the 289 (4.7L). However, being that it is a Factory GT (and in the purist crowd...a "real GT") I will leave everything stock. The stock frame on an A Code car probably won't handle the kind of power (although relatively mild by today's standards) that I was going to throw at it. And a "Factory GT" is worth more in stock configuration.

Actually, the reality is, I'd probably get something like this '68 Islero...

Alas, it's been sold. They were asking $198 for it, I wonder what it went for.

Also----had a good time on the drive Saturday, I was in the white Khamsin.

Found something I thought was pretty cool the other day. While prepping the engine compartment of the Mustang for paint, we noticed just a small amount of lettering on the radiator support. So we spent so time with a razor blade delicately stripping away a layer of paint and this is what we found.

It is the stenciling from when the original dealer prepped the car almost 50 years go. Not a big deal, but still pretty cool. So we taped it off, finished prepping and painting the engine compartment. I'm going to shoot a little clearcoat over the stenciling to further protect it.

I does, though, help to substantiate that it is California car (Coberly Ford was in LA from early 1900s until the mid-80s) .....along with the assembly plant (San Jose), the DSO (71....Los Angeles), and the California black plates that came with the car.

That is pretty cool. I'm a history buff so that kind of stuff is interesting to me. Tedshred and I are restoring a 235 straight 6 for Dad's 53 Bel Air Convertible and found this old shot showing how the engines were painted. I need to figure out what the white stencil markings meant so we can get it all dolled up like showroom. Another note revealed by these pics, we never see painted exhaust manifolds on old classics and muscle cars, but this prooves they were painted on the engine. The blue just burnt off in short order.

That's interesting. I'm going to have to see if I can't figure out what the markings mean.
