Ferrari, apparently bored after completing development work on the 2014 LaFerrari hybrid supercar and stymied by Formula 1’s upcoming budget cap, is looking for a new outlet for its engineering itch. Enter prototype racing at Le Mans. Rumor has it Ferrari’s looking to throw its hat into the same ring currently dominated by Audi and its R18 e-tron Quattro race car, and it’s looking to win. From the looks of these spy photos of what appears to be a Ferrari LMP1 development car out testing, Ferrari might just have found its new “thing.”

From where we sit, there’s a lot of LaFerrari going on in the racer’s general look, although a closer inspection reveals LMP1-style swooping front fenders, a longer and flatter rear deck with all manner of vents, slats, and scoops—not to mention that giant rear wing. The cockpit is nearly identical to the roadgoing LaFerrari’s, but with a racy scoop added above it. Of course, there is the possibility that this car isn’t Ferrari’s first factory Le Mans prototype effort in 40-some years. Billionaire Ferrari reconfigurator James Glickenhaus—commissioner of Pininfarina’s beautiful P4/5 and the P4/5 Competizione race car—is working on a new project, and some aspects of this car match a rendering of that effort, which recently was teased by Glickenhaus on his Facebook page.

Just a fad that started in 1961. I really doubt it will catch on...

For pure vettee people taillights are supposed to be round

The tail of this car looks disturbingly like a Camaro

I duuno Jim, not sure I'm on board with the "Vettes have round tail lights" philosophy yet.

Lots of changes in store with the unified series this year under IMSA as sanctioning body, and NASCAR $$$$$ and promotioning behind it. The test weekend in Daytona just wrapped up in advance of the 24hr race on Jan 23. Corvette Racing topped the chart.

All the new rules, classes, schedule and photos here:

Keep Indy on July 25 open for our annual day at the track event.

Fantastic looking Audi from Daytona photos.

haha must be it

Really it was rush hour, all those cars were coming from the interstate.

I thought maybe it was your first responder nature; rushing in where others are trying to get the heck out.

Found something I thought was pretty cool the other day. While prepping the engine compartment of the Mustang for paint, we noticed just a small amount of lettering on the radiator support. So we spent so time with a razor blade delicately stripping away a layer of paint and this is what we found.

It is the stenciling from when the original dealer prepped the car almost 50 years go. Not a big deal, but still pretty cool. So we taped it off, finished prepping and painting the engine compartment. I'm going to shoot a little clearcoat over the stenciling to further protect it.

I does, though, help to substantiate that it is California car (Coberly Ford was in LA from early 1900s until the mid-80s) .....along with the assembly plant (San Jose), the DSO (71....Los Angeles), and the California black plates that came with the car.

That is pretty cool. I'm a history buff so that kind of stuff is interesting to me. Tedshred and I are restoring a 235 straight 6 for Dad's 53 Bel Air Convertible and found this old shot showing how the engines were painted. I need to figure out what the white stencil markings meant so we can get it all dolled up like showroom. Another note revealed by these pics, we never see painted exhaust manifolds on old classics and muscle cars, but this prooves they were painted on the engine. The blue just burnt off in short order.
