This is even meaner looking than the original. Thought I'd throw this out to get some feedback from you guys.

To me, that is one of the finer retro concept cars. Very well done for that stage of evolution. Would be cool to see it happen. What is the rumor mill saying abouat a new Pantera?

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! Can't put the Cleveland in it, too dirty now. Besides I'm getting 6-8 mpg for 410 HP at the crank in my Torino. My Vette puts out around 560 at the crank and gets 28 @ 75 MPH. But with a modern power train I'd buy it.

Unfortunately these are only renderings. They were done by Stefan Schultze, a graphic designer out of Germany. The Pantera community would love to see this happen, but so far no one has stepped up to run with it.

I agree that this is the best retro concept design for the Pantera. There have been a few, but none as good as this one.

That is just awesome. The Pantera has always been one of my favorites, and that concept does it justice!

Price tag of $140. My Vette's gone. I looked seriously at the GT40 when they were $125 but then the dealer told me they were getting an additional $125 under the table. BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be willing to bet that the Ford guys would be holding their hand out under the table for this one, too. Especially after the "mark-up-success" they had with the GT.

And if they did Mark, I'd tell 'em to pound sand again and get another Vette. This Vette is the first GM I've ever owned, always been Fords but not a 2X sticker. My brother's Shelby is being built the end of this month and he's paying more than I would but still under sticker. Can always pop it on Ebay and make 10K

The car will NEVER wieght that little, even if it was all CF, NEVER, In fact I gaurentee it'll be 3k+
800hp, possible

10 RPM....not from an American car, and if it does (hahahah) it wont last long.
225mph and 2.3 secs?? doubtfull, and if they do, it will be fruity flappy paddles

like you said, one can dream

and all that for 140k, Id say hit the sac early tonight, cause MAYBE in your dreams it would be that cheap.....maybe

You are correct. It is a dream, and with current technology it's probably not possible, but with new innovation , incentives (and lots of money) anything is possible. And I agree, a car with all this would definitely be worth more than $140K. I was being optimistic for those of us with limited budgets.

Well, can it be said the the sales of the limited number of GT's was a success? If so, I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if they took the same chassis/motor and wrapped that body and an "updated/retro" interior in it and ran the whole process over again.

And to be clear, I wouldn't have one problem with that whatsoever.

The original Pantera sales were pretty good. It was priced at $10,000, between a Mustang @ $3K and a Ferrari @ $20K. Unfortunately a combination of the gas shortage and emmission regulations that hit in the mid 70's killed sales, so Ford pulled out. By that time DeTomaso had purchased a struggling Maserati and was busy trying to rescue it, so the Pantera project was scrapped.

The car is monocoque construction so there is no chassis, I would hope they don't repeat that. I would also hope that it not be called a Lincoln, and DEFINITELY a better interior. Keep in mind, the original car was designed in less than 9 months. Unheard of and a feat in itself, but it resulted in numerous deficiencies.

With a design like that rendering, the car would need to be completely re-engineered and in fact, re-born.

WAAAAY back in time (1979) I was president of our high school auto club and organized a spring show each year. Our auto shop teacher Bruce Hatcher (Southport High, Indpls) knew somebody who had a twin turbo Pantera and brought it to one of the shows. I think it was a local car at the time. Do you know the other Panteras in the area and by chance know that one?

I think that as we know about Ford, they like to re-body and market cars.

There wasn't a whole lot the new GT and the GT40 have in common aside from the basic layout and appearance. It's more of a marketing move to build cars like that.

Seeing as they have existing tooling and engineering already in place, I don't see why they don't do a run of Pantera's now and capitalize again off the nastalgia. And then, maybe a couple years later do a run of the later model GT40s. Should be a relatively small upfront cost now that all the hard work's already been done when designing and building the GT.

Using the same underpinnings, I'd bet Every five years ford could build another nasalgia mobile that would sell for double-sticker...

Pantera, GT40MKII, RS200, Jaguar XJ13, and maybe even a new XJ220.

Bill, as far as I know, there are about 6 or 7 Panteras in the central Indiana area. Four that are not driven much (one is in Ray Skillman's museum), three that go to car shows and drive-ins on the southside, and one that is driven too fast for its own good...

Unfortunately I don't think any of them are biturbos.

Thanks ZUL8TR. That is the car (#2421) that was given to the Playboy Playmate of the Year (girl in picture), and featured in Playboy in the early 70s.

Will,
with a big hammer and a little bondo we could make your Pantera look just like that. We could even spray it that color if you like. I bet Krylon makes a pretty close match!
