Just picked one up on a whim because the price was right. Now just need to figure out what I'm going to do with/to it. That 4.7L V8 sounds pretty good....for not being domestic and all! Atleast I can fit the kids in it, in a pinch, if needed.

Wow, don't see many in white!

It looks very classic sitting next to a 78 Vette. One of my favorite Road and Track issues is a 1983 test btwn 928, 944, 308 and Vette. Great comarisons and write-up. If you Google all that you can still find the article scans on-line.

Hmmm....you are truly a car guy. What tipped you off to the fact that the Vette is a '78? The paint scheme?

Yes, the 928 is white with blue leather interior. Interesting combo, but it works fairly well. It is also a manual transmission. I've only had limited time to research these, but from what I can tell it is "rare" to find these cars with manual transmission. I don't have any hard numbers though.

I've got some work to do to this one.....TB/WP, all the hoses and belts (gotta a hefty coolant leak right now). Gotta buff the paint up....then I'll know better how the clutch is and how strong the engine pulls.

Well yeah,! Silver Anniversary colors.
When I was in 6th grade I did a big book report on Corvette history. I covered the different year changes, including riveting data such as 1960 got a rear sway bar for the first time and what gauge lenses were flat vs convex. I put the entire class and teacher to sleep, but I recall the entire speech like it was yesterday. Have fun with the 928.

That particular 78, with Silver Anniversary scheme, has 5000 actual miles on it. I also have a 81 in the shop with 2900 actual miles on it.

Congrats! I've always had a soft spot for Porsche 928's. Back in 1986 my older sister called me, excited as hell, and she said "you can't believe it, guess what we just bought?" It was a Guards Red, left over (still new but unsold) 1985 Porsche 928 S w/5.0 L but unfortunately automatic transmission w/black leather interior. It was absolutely stunning. She gave my Mom a ride first, then my Dad, then me but I rode in the back seat for the first two rides.

I'll never forget the sound of that car and I can still picture the interior of it and for the life of me I don't know why I remember this but I remember that the antenna was embedded into the windshield for some reason. What's amazing to me, is that even though the design was 7 or 8 years old at the time, it was so far ahead of its time, it still looked fresh and exotic back then. I can't imagine a 7-8 year old car still being exciting to a fickle teenager these days let alone anyone else.

Those cars had and still have so much charisma about them. Great find, great buy, have fun!

saw a white one around 136th and Springmill tonight. Now sure if it was an "S" or not. I was surprised to see it.

Here is the thing about white.....we currently own 5 vehicles.....the five listed above in the "cars owned" next to my name. Out of those 5 cars/truck, 4 of them are white! To top it off, I have never gone out and intentionally purchased a white vehicle. I don't dislike the color, in fact I think it is great on the NSX, but I just have never actually sought out a white vehicle.....they just seem to fine me!

Heck, even the trailer is white!

Here it is about two weeks ago....just after clear was shot and rolled out of the booth, but before a quick cut and buff.

Got the engine compartment put back together yesterday. (changed timing belt, tensioner, boot, water pump, belts, hoses, thermostat, sent radiator out to be cleaned and checked, motorvac, brakes, charge AC (R134a), etc). Finished up the fluid changes yesterday afternoon (Kendall GT-1 LiTi 20w50 oil, Lucas Synth 75w90 gear oil, coolant, filters, etc). Have a few mechanical bits to troubleshoot next week (speedo not working, brake pressure warning even after bleed and good pedal, and other little things), put the front bumper together, etc. I should have it on the road a week from Monday (we'll say on the road on the 15th). So, the project is very close.

I'll be honest, I had never really noticed these cars before......I liked the 968 from the 944 line, but had never really paid any attention to the 928. However, after driving this car around for the past week.....it is pretty fun. It isn't the NSX....but for a 30 year old car, and a heavy, front-engine, water cooled V8 Porsche touring car, it is a lot of fun to drive.
