The NA1's were 1991 - 1996 and were 270hp 5 speeds. The 95 and 96's had Targa as an option (which added a bit of weight)
The NA2's 1997-2005 had the 290hp 6 speeds. The "facelift" occurred in 2002 and added about 6 mph top speed. All NA2's are targa's except the Zanardi edition which is the highest performance NSX you get in America)
The advantage for the older cars are the 150 lbs. Once you start adding headers, exhaust, straight pipes and so on you have shaved quite a bit more weight and have only invested a couple thousand more in the car. When you add the mods to a 97+ (na2) you end up with the same hp but still weigh an extra 150lbs and have spent double the money on the car.
EX:
91 (na1) cost $27,000 w/ 270hp - add headers($1800), exhaust $(1300), intake ($400) = 310hp for total cost of $30500.
97 (na2) cost $40,000 w/290hp - add headers ($1800, exhaust $(1300), intake (400)
= 310 hp for $43500 because the NA2 sees very little gains over stock with the same mods.
For the difference in price you can install lightweight seats, and several carbon fiber pieces, and lightwieght coilovers/clutch that could quickly bring the 91 down to 2600-2700lbs and still be under $40000 if you can work on it yourself.
The older ones are a tuners delight.
