There slower and older.

Whats the advantages of the NA-1 Besides being cheaper and 150lbs lighter.

Were talking stock here.
NA1's are the older ones...

Not much difference on track or straight away drag. My 94 has 150lb weight reduction with light chromoly flywheel/racing clutch and an xtra 20hp over stock. When I raced S2000 from 35 -80mph (secluded stretch of interstate) the NSX was about two car lengths ahead at 80.
I would have to imagine stock vs stock would be nearly even. When it comes to the track it has more to do with driver skill and fresh rubbers/brakes than torque so I don't think the hp gap would matter for much.

The NA1's were 1991 - 1996 and were 270hp 5 speeds. The 95 and 96's had Targa as an option (which added a bit of weight)

The NA2's 1997-2005 had the 290hp 6 speeds. The "facelift" occurred in 2002 and added about 6 mph top speed. All NA2's are targa's except the Zanardi edition which is the highest performance NSX you get in America)

I thought Targa or Coupe was THE Option on NA2's?

The advantage for the older cars are the 150 lbs. Once you start adding headers, exhaust, straight pipes and so on you have shaved quite a bit more weight and have only invested a couple thousand more in the car. When you add the mods to a 97+ (na2) you end up with the same hp but still weigh an extra 150lbs and have spent double the money on the car.
EX:
91 (na1) cost $27,000 w/ 270hp - add headers($1800), exhaust $(1300), intake ($400) = 310hp for total cost of $30500.
97 (na2) cost $40,000 w/290hp - add headers ($1800, exhaust $(1300), intake (400)
= 310 hp for $43500 because the NA2 sees very little gains over stock with the same mods.
For the difference in price you can install lightweight seats, and several carbon fiber pieces, and lightwieght coilovers/clutch that could quickly bring the 91 down to 2600-2700lbs and still be under $40000 if you can work on it yourself.
The older ones are a tuners delight.

Like I said earlier - driver skill and good tires are more important than subtle differences in hp or suspension.

There were no coupes in USA (except zanardi) after 1996.

the 3.2L NSX's picked up their speed from the extra gear. And the majority of the power gains don't come from the .2L increase in the engine, it mostly came from the redesigned headers. Many people swap NA2 headers onto NA1's and pick up 10 - 15hp.

The advantage of the NA1's is the lighter weight, stiffer chassis, and a ECU that can actually be tuned... oh yeah, and cost. Tranny's the drawback.

I don't think there's a Forum on the net that doesn't start hitting the rags once the snow falls... unless it's a snowmobiling forum, at which case the opposite occurs.

Thanks for all the great info.

In his case, His choice is highly dependable on the look of the 2002+Facelift. Its something i think he has to have.

He's Very slow at making up his mind. I wouldnt be surprised if the new NSX doesnt come out before he makes a decision.

The it's WAY cheaper to get an earlier NSX and perform the facelift yourself.

That was "The Wolf" driving the NSX in Pulp-Fiction, not John Travolta.

Bickity Bam! That's what I'm talking about.
I hate the big bug eyes on some of the new cars. I like it on the lotus but it looks silly on the NSX in person. I know that is the trend, but the popups add so much character Otherwise the car looks like it is wearing grandpa's reading glasses.

People usually spend between 4 - 6K on the swap. The parts are around 3, the rest is paint, which is a nightmare on these cars... (aluminum)
