need some wheel help quick!

I am jonesing to get some new wheels for my NSX since I am bored with the old ones (and a certain other X owner won't sell me theirs :x ).
I am close to buying some BBS rs wheels that weigh 17lbs each and are three piece. One of the rear wheels need to have the polished metal refinished but it is not damaged bad. The wheels I have now are 18s and weigh about 24 - 26lbs each. I will be saving almost 7 - 9lbs a wheel. Does anyone notice a difference by putting on lighter wheels?
I have never owned bbs so I am wondering if they are worth the extra $$$ vs other wheels that are fairly close in weight.
I must buy by Sunday night 3/9/08

I've had BBS wheels before and all I can say is it's worth every penny. Not too stylish but very classy. With regards to lighweight wheels, light is might.

I'd have to go with jason. He certainly knows about light. He's the only guy I know that removed the radio and speakers from a STREET car to make it lighter.

Justin, there's a thread on Prime about a guy doing time-testing with different wheels. The first test had REALLY heavy wheels and the second test had REALLY light wheels. Interestingly, there was almost no difference in times.

I was suprised, too.

BBS CH's are cool, mainly a Ferrari style, but they also look good on NSX's IMO.

My next set will most likely be the Volks GTC's. Excellent wheels, there, and also perfect offset on the NSX for running 275's out back.

I am no longer getting the wheels. The only issue w/ the wheels is some clear coat coming off one of the rears. The owner says"it just needs polish and recoat".
Unfortunatley w/ this model of BBS wheel once you strip the clear coat it never looks the same and won't match the other three.
I considered repainting all the wheels to match but don't want to spend the time. I will have to look at the Racing Hart wheels for a while.
On the plus side:
My brother's tuning biz in LA will start producing custom wheels for Japanese and Italian cars as soon as the end of summer 2008. I will have to wait for a set, but should be worth it.

There's a company in Fort Wayne that will refinish wheels. I looked into it last year. It was going to be ~ $150 per wheel. They come back looking like new.

As for light-weight...

Reducing spinning weight is very important. It takes energy (e.g. HP) to get spinning weight moving and then to keep it moving. Dropping 7 pounds of spinning weight from each wheel (28 pounds total) will give you better control, acceleration, braking, etc. Much more than dropping 28 pounds of unsprung weight. So yes, look for light-weight rim and tire combos.

OK Mr Wizard...for your home science test:
Take a bicycle wheel off the bike. Hold it by the axle and get the wheel turning fast. Now try to make it wobble and turn side to side. It takes some effort. The lighter the rim and tire combo, the easier it will actually get. Makes it easier on your brakes too. They have to stop the momentum of te spinning weight, so you should expect your braking distance to be reduced.

BBS wheels are very nice. If you like their style. They are also very strong and very light.

As for light wheels.

They should MAKE a huge difference.

You cant do tests with two different cars. It just wont work.

On my first lexus. I had some heavy ass 19" chrome AXIS wheels put on it. Riding with those and then going back to the 16" winter wheels. The car was night and day. Acceleration was tremendously different and braking too.

Saving any UNSPRUNG weight is Very benificial

This line will be NSX specific. Currently he is focusing on Supra parts but all my begging is starting to pay off.
His shop will be using his neighbor's NSX and my NSX for fitment/testing of many oem conversion pieces. He has been gracious enough to sponsor my car. So far all I have recieved is the HID kit.
The wheel process will take about 1-2 years since testing is paramount to avoid losing cred like HRE did. Expect the wheels to go between $3000 - $5000 a set.
